Meetei Society celebrates foundation day

Meetei Society, Churachandpur celebrated its 66th foundation day at its Khuga Tampak office, here, on Thursday.
The programme was attended by works minister Govindas Konthoujam as chief guest and Society president Moirangth-em Thoiba Singh as functional president while Moirang MLA Thongam Shanti Singh, Manipuri film actor RK Somendro (Kai-ku) and Ema Leimaren Apunba Lup, Churachandpur president A Nayani Leima were present as guests of honour.
The function began with offering of floral tributes to the departed members of the Society.
Addressing the gathering, minister Govindas lauded achievers from the minority community and advised the youth to emulate them in pursuit of their career, be it academic or sports.
While encouraging the youth to strive for excelling in their chosen field through hard work and dedication, he stated that this would ultimately ensure a healthy society in the long-run.
Govindas appealed to all to support and participate in the 'War on drugs', protection of forest and natural ecosystem.
He exuded confidence that these campaigns would definitely help bring in a peaceful and progressive Manipur.
On the occasion, various speakers recalled and appreciated the exceptional contributions made by Meetei Society in fostering peace during the unfortunate conflict between two communities that occurred in 1997 .
The celebration was marked by felicitation of three PhD/ Doctorate degree holders from the Meetei community of Churachandpur namely, Dr Dhanapriya Moirangthem, Dr Soibam San-geeta, Dr Nganbi Chanu and footballer Chinglensana Konsam who is representing India.
They were presented simple gifts in appreciation of their achievements in their respective fields.
