Six MLAs have urged the TA & Hills minister Letpao Haokip to make arrangement for conducting elections to the ADCs which have been left pending since May 31, 2020 .
The six MLAs Ngursanglur Sanate (Tipaimukh), Vung zagin Valte (Thanlon), Let-zamang Haokip (Henglep), LM Khaute (Churachandpur), Paolenlal Haokip (Saikot) and Chinlunthang (Singhat) .
In the letter addressed to the TA minister, the MLAs said that as per the resolution adopted in the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) meeting held on March 16 with regard to the ADC election, the pending polls should be con ducted at the earliest so that public mandated Councils are installed.
It may be mentioned that the Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) had expressed discontentment over the matter and organised protest agitation against not conducting the ADC election till this day and enquired the reasons for the delay, while terming the attitude of the government as unfortunate.
On the other hand, the state cabinet in its January meeting had decided to conduct the election to the ADC and local bodies by March 2023.However, it has failed to conduct the same till date.
Interestingly, the cabinet in its March 16 meeting resolved to conduct the urban local body and panchayat elections by June 2023.But no mentions were made about the pending ADC elections.
