Imphal, April 06 2023:
In the wake of a misleading video uploaded on YouTube, the Shillong Manipuri Students' Union (SMSU) clarified that there was no such report or incident where Khasi were ill-treated and threatened over land dispute issues by Manipuri living in Jiribam district.
SMSU in a press release clarified that the video is of an incident which took place on April 2, 2023 in Jiribam District and Tousem Sub Division of Tamenglong District of Manipur between members of two other communities and is nowhere related or concerning the Khasi people of Meghalaya living in Manipur.
'There is no report of imposing a ban on agricultural activities in Khasi inhabited areas of Manipur by any communities', the union said.
The student union strongly condemned the act of circulating such videos with the alleged intention of impairing the cordial relationship between the Khasi and Manipuri which has been existing over the past several decades.
In view of the circulation of such misleading videos, the Shillong Manipuri Students' Union appealed to the people of Meghalaya, CSOs, student organizations to maintain peace and harmony.
Further it appealed to the Manipur Government to probe the matter at the earliest to ensure that no untoward incidents happen.
