Ukhrul, April 06 2023:
Days after several bomb blasts weeks apart rocked Ukhrul town and injured many, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and all CSOs operational in the district imposed a lightning bandh from 5 am to 12 noon today.
The bandh was imposed to lodge their protest against the "barbaric act of bomb attacks" in the town, said TNL leaders.
While the bandh ended at noon today, a public curfew daily from 6 pm to 5 am has been imposed until further notice.
This is to ensure the safety of the people, added the TNL leaders.
The total shutdown was enforced in Ukhrul town following a collective decision taken in a joint emergency meeting of the Tangkhul frontal organization held on Wednesday at its office.

The meeting unanimously resolved to impose the bandh to protest and show discontentment against the "barbaric activities of bomb blasts in the town areas" .
The meeting also agreed to impose a public curfew from 6 pm to 5 am indefinitely for ensuring safety of all, they said.
On the other hand, the TNL leaders said deployment of additional police commandos in the town is "doubtful and may escalate unwanted situation [tension]" .
"Why are the authorities concerned, instead of installing CCTv cameras in all strategic areas of the town and increasing police strength of Ukhrul district, is deploying additional forces of police commando personnel from other districts in Ukhrul town? .
"Deployment of police commandos in the town is doubtful and may escalate unwanted situation," the TNL leaders said.
They then appealed to the people of Ukhrul town to stay alert for quick response any time to their calls.
During the shutdown, Ukhrul town wore a deserted look.
The bandh ended peacefully without any reports of unwanted incidents.
