Imphal, April 06 2023:
Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) women affairs secretary Ksh Lanleima has appealed to the state government to provide sanitary pads to girl students in both private and government schools, at the earliest.
Speaking to the media at MSF head office, Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai, here, on Thursday, Lanleima recounted that under the Chief Minister Menstrual Hygiene Scheme (CMMHS) launched in December 15, 2022, sanitary pad vending machines were installed in 38 schools across state.
However, there seems to be no follow up measures such as restocking of sanitary pads in these vending machines, Lanleima contended and appealed to authorities concerned to ensure that girl students reap the benefit of having vending machines in their schools from the academic session 2023-24 .
MSF will submit a memorandum to the education minister and Departments of Education (Universities/Schools) on the matter while its Women Affairs Cell will inspect schools and colleges for an update on provision of sanitary pads, she said.
The secretary also proposed to the government for setting up of Girls Common Room for class 8-12 students in every school.
