Nurses should empathise with patients: Dir

As nurses are the heart of the health sector, they must have empathy for the patients they are caring for so as to help in their speedy recovery, said Health Services direc tor Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang.
The capping, lamp-lighting and oath-taking ceremony of the 2022-24 batch of students of School of ANM/FHW Imphal, Medical Directorate was held at Nurses Hostel No.1, Lamphel Sanakeithel on Thursday.
Speaking as the chief guest of the ceremony, Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang lauded the government- run nursing institutes for performing well in their respective areas.
He further appreciated the principal of the Institute for putting forth infrastructures lacking in the institute in a clear manner.
He continued that one who saves someone's life is regarded as a 'hero'.
However, nurses help save more that 100 people, playing an important role right from one's birth till death.
As such, nurses must have empathy for the patients in their care so as to ensure full recovery of the patients, he asserted.
Dr Sasheekumar then stressed the need for harmony between nurses and doctors.
Doctors only give instructions for treatment of patients but nurses are the ones who are taking care of the patients.
Thus, nurses are the heart and soul of the health care sector, he maintained and exhorted the nursing students to study sincerely, while assuring of setting up a service station to assist in future job opportunities.
Presided over by Manipur Nursing Council, Medical Directorate registrar Dr A Ja-muna, the ceremony was also attended by JNIMS assistant nursing superintendent Th Memcha and School of ANM/ FHW principal K Dharmabati as guests of honour.
Principal K Dharmabati administered the oath to the students on the occasion.
