Protesting against the occupancy of a land used by the local club, Meira Shang, Singlup and local ground by a private individual and demolition of the structures; a sit-in protest was staged at Chingmeirong on Thursday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the sit-in, Chingmeirong Mamang Awang Leikai Singlup secretary Kh Thangamba termed as unfortunate that attempts are being made to forcefully convert the land used since our forefathers' time as the local ground, in addition to having Chingmeirong Upper Primary School, Chingmeirong Youth Welfare Association, Chingmeirong Mamang Awang Leikai Singlup and Chingmeirong Apunba Meira Paibi Shan-glen, as someone's private property.
Condemning the act of transfer -ring the patta of the land to a private individual, Thangamba informed that a 12-hour bandh has been imposed in parts of NH-2 under Chingmeirong, on Friday from 6am to 6pm.He continued that one Maibam Haripiyari from Taothong produced several fake documents and filed a complaint, claiming that the locality's land had been left behind by her great-grandfather.
The case had been fought in the court since 1972 .
Although the locals had defended against many eviction attempts since then, a large number of police personnel was utilised to demolish the club, Meira Shang and Singlup buildings in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
Stating that the people of Chingmeirong will continue to fight for protecting the Club and ground, which produced the first power lifter of the state and many renowned sportspersons; Thangamba cautioned against anyone constructing any structure in the disputed land, while mentioning about the ban imposed on selling land in any area of Chingmeirong without the permission of the Club and the Singlup.
Urging the authority concerned to take a serious look into this matter of some people trying to forcefully takeover the locality's land with fake and meaningless historical records; the secretary further appealed to the CM to take note of this matter, considering his (CM) call for saving play grounds in the valley.
During the sit-in, the protestors shouted slogans like "No area of Chingmeirong can be lost", "Chingmeirong denizens will defend any threat to forefathers' lands", "Protect the training ground of sportspersons", etc.
