Imphal, April 06 2023:
Clubs and womenfolk of Chanam Sandrok staged a sit-in protest today urging the Government to carry out NRC and deport all outsiders without Inner Line Permit.
The protest was staged at Chanam Sandrok Community Hall by members and volunteers of Gamma Ray Club, Centre for Human Resource, Chanam Sandrok Makha Leikai Meira Paibi and Chanam Sandrok Awang Leikai Meira Paibi.
On the sideline of the protest demonstration, Gamma Ray Club general secretary Mutum Ajitkumar said the people of Chanam Sandrok have resolved to protect the indigenous population against threat posed by illegal immigrants.
To protect the indigenous communities, population and to detect and deport illegal immigrants, the Government must carry out NRC (National Register of Citizenship) exercise at the earliest, he said.
Echoing the same demands, the womenfolk said that it is unfortunate that some outsiders were found registered in the voters' list and as job card holders from Chanam Sandrok.
Such cases are clear examples of giving away benefits meant for indigenous people to outsiders, they said, adding that all persons involved in such illegal activities should be punished according to law.
Asserting that similar cases may be detected in other places, the womenfolk appealed to all the representatives of the people and Government officials not to pursue their own interests at the expense of the indigenous people.
They also urged the Government and all its agencies concerned to ramp up drives to detect illegal immigrants across the State.
