All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) celebrated its 21st Foundation Day at the community hall of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai today.
AMUCO president Dr Y Mani Khuman, Irabot Foundation Manipur president Pabung Iboyaima, AMUCO advisor KT Rahaman, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president Mem-choubi Devi, AMUCO former presidents Advocate Khaidem Mani, Ito Tongbram, R Yangsosong Koireng, former members K Joychandra, Dhananjoy, Khogen, M Khogen, COHR chairman Phunindro Konsam, AMWVA president Kunjarani, NRC president Badal Kumar, AMESCO president Nando and MSF president Md Sirajuddin were the presidium members of the function.
Speaking at the occasion, Khaidem Mani said that although India is said to be a democratic country, people from North East States are being discriminated and harassed by the people of mainland India.
He also strongly condemned the incident of assaulting Imphal Free Press Senior Reporter Aribam Chaoba alias Paojel Chaoba.
Saying that security personnel ought to uphold the law, Khaidem Mani demanded that befitting punishment be awarded to involved IRB personnel.
AMUCO former president R Yangsasong Koireng said that people from North East States are being harassed in different cities of India taking advantage of their oriental look.
He opined that such incidents would continue in future as well if these are not faced unitedly in time.
It is unfortunate that racism is still prevalent in the national capital Delhi although even South Africa has not witnessed such incidents since past many decades, he added.
K Joychandra said that the Centre and people of mainland India have been neglecting North East States.
Such unwanted attitudes can be knocked off only when NE people raise a collective voice, he added.
While speaking the occasion, Dhananjoy emphasised on the need for upholding the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Dr Y Mani Khuman expressed hope that civil society organisations would put in effort towards solving the problem of degradation of political, cultural and traditional values and economic weakness.
He also stressed on the need for active involvement of common people in this regard.
People must forget personal religion and community to bring unity, he added.
Pitching strong voice against 'divide and rule' policy, Phunidro Konsam said that Manipur is for all the communities residing in the State.
No part can be carved out from Manipur at all, he added.
