Imphal, February 12 2014:
Capitalising on two early goals, both coming before the match had touched the 10th minute mark, FSC, Kakching Chumnang eased into the semi-final of the 2nd JA District Level Mens' Football Championship downing TUC Thongjao by a margin of two goals to nil in the first quarter final match of the day today.
Taking the field, the FSC players made their intention clear from the word go and started finding the gaps in the defence line of TUC Thongjao repeatedly.
Throwing caution to the wind, the FSC players put all their players in the attack and this tactics paid off when Boinao found himself in a good position to slot home the ball in the 6th minute of the game.
The goal came even before the players of TUC had settled down and got into a rhythm.
Stung by the early goal, TUC went on the offensive and started raiding the territory of FSC but could not get anywhere near scoring.
The second goal came against the run of play, when the FSC players dispossessed the ball from TUC in the midfield and caught the defence line on the wrong foot.
A fine pass fell at the feet of Indranath, who had shrugged off his marker near the penalty box and he made no mistake in slotting home the ball in the 8th minute.
Unsettled by the two early goals, TUC Thongjao went all out but the defence line of FSC stood firm not giving them the space nor the time to take any meaningful look at its goal.
At the lemon break, FSC had taken a comfortable two goal lead conceding none.
The second half of the match saw a drabless game despite the efforts of TUC to break through and come back into the match.
The defence line of YSC did well in keeping the marauding forwards of TUC at bay.
IYA Wairi down JA Kaching Makha Leikai by 2 goals to nil : Henba of IYA Wairi rose to the occasion to single handedly take his team into the semi-final by scoring a brace against JA Kakching Makha Leikai in the second quarter final match of the day today.
Even before the players of JA Kakching Makha Leikai had settled down, Henba snatched the ball near the danger zone and after wrong footing a couple of defenders cooly despatched the ball into the far right of the net to take his team ahead in the 6th minute of the match.
Stung by the early goal, JA Kakching Makha Leikai adopted a more attacking style and started making inroads into the territory of the rival team but to no avail as the defence of IYA stood firm.
Henba was at it again in the 23rd minute when he received a precise pass from the flank and had little trouble in disturbing the net of JA for the second time.
The second half turned out to be a listless one with neither side scoring or having a good look at the goal.
