Imphal, February 12 2014:
Manipur outplayed Nagaland by 9 runs in the 1st Inter- State T-20 U-25 Cricket Championship underway at Dimapur today.
Winning the toss, Manipur opted to bat first and riding on a blistering 61 runs off 54 balls from Prafullomani and 36 runs off 26 balls from Mintu Chandra put up a total score of 133 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
The other notable contributors were Santosh with 10 runs off 14 balls and Narsingh 9 runs not out off 7 balls.
Set a steep task of overtaking 133 runs off 20 overs, Nagaland started shakily but soon settled down to start finding the gaps and keep the score board moving.
The Manipur bowlers did not have much to do as the Nagaland batsmen literally threw away the match with some poor running in between the wickets coupled with some splendid fielding by the players from Manipur.
Five of the Nagaland batsmen were run out.
Though the run flow did not ebb, the Nagaland players did themselves in with some poor running between the wickets and going in for the big shots instead of concentrating on building up a partnership in the middle of the pitch.
Honours were evenly split amongst the front line bowlers of Manipur, but Thomas came out tops in conceding only 10 runs in 3 overs and scalping one wicket.
Robertson also chipped in with one wicket in 4 overs conceding 16 runs while William took one wicket in 3 overs and conceded 18 runs.
Suraj followed with one wicket in 4 overs conceding 24 runs while Homendro proved to be the costliest bowler in conceding 34 runs in four overs and bagging one wicket.
Tomorrow Manipur will take on Bihar.
The tournament is being organised by the Nagaland Cricket Association and is being staged at Sovina Cricket Ground, Dimapur.
In the other match played today, Bihar outplayed Arunachal Pradesh by wickets.
This is the 1st Inter State T-20 U 25 Cricket Championship to be organised in the country.
