Seminar on TDS held

A seminar on Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) for Drawing and Disbursement Officers (DDOs) of different Govt offices of Imphal East was organised jointly by the Commissioner of Income Tax, NE Region, Guwahati and the office of the DC, Imphal East today at Panchayat Bhawan, DC Complex, Porompat.
In his keynote address, C Deepak Singh, IRS, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS), NER, Guwahati said that income tax contributes almost 60 percent of the taxes of the Government of India thereby making the Income Tax Dept the most important revenue generating wing of the Central Govt, a statement issued by Ng Joseph Gangte, IRS, Dy Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS), Imphal, informed.
He said that the revenue generated by the Central Govt through taxes is utilised for funding various developmental programmes of the Govt.As such, the compliance to income tax laws would help in the healthy growth and prosperity of the States and the nation as a whole.
Saying that taxes are the fuel for running the Govt, Deepak emphasised the need for optimising the direct tax collections from Manipur by ensuring proper and efficient implementation of TDS provisions in the State adding that more than 90 percent of the revenue of the State Govt comes from the Central Govt taxes and allocations, the statement said.
Amitava Sanyal, ITO Guwahati; Sumit Purkayashta, ITO (Tech), Guwahati and S Sachidananda Singh, Inspector of Income Tax made presentations on various legal provisions of Income Tax law with special focus on e-filing and compliance to TDS provisions as the resource persons of the technical sessions.
An open interactive session followed the technical session wherein the IT officials fielded queries from the DDOs.
Somorjit Salam, ADM, Imphal East inaugurated the seminar, it added.
