Constable who slapped MLA's brother suspended

Imphal, February 12 2014:
A constable of Lilong Police Station has been suspended for allegedly slapping MLA of Sugnu Assembly Constituency K Ranjit's younger brother at Lilong yesterday.
The incident happened at around 4.30 pm while MLA Ranjit's brother was driving towards Imphal in a Bolero jeep bearing registration number MN 01X-0786.At that time, two scooter-borne youths met an accident at Lilong Lamkhai on their own.
The Bolero stopped there for a while and drove away towards Imphal.
However, one constable of Lilong PS identified as Md Fajiruddin Khan, who was detailed for duty near the spot, shouted to the driver (Ranjit's bro) to stop thinking that the jeep had hit the scooterists.
The driver drove away straight without responding to the constable.
The constable then chased the driver in a Gypsy and succeeded in stopping the Bolero jeep near
Lilong Bridge.
The constable asked the driver to come out of the vehicle alleging that he had hit the scooterists.
The driver identified himself as MLA Ranjit's brother and denied the allegation.
A confrontation between the constable and MLA's brother ensued.
Constable Fajiruddin reportedly slapped MLA's brother.
MLA Ranjit's wife was also coming towards Imphal in a car at that time.
Further, the constable seized the Bolero's key from the driver in front of MLA's wife and drove away to Lilong Police Station.
On hearing about the incident, MLA Ranjit, Education Minister M OKendro and other high ranking officials rushed to the spot.
Later in the evening, constable Fajiruddin was suspended in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, ANJUMAN and other Muslim organizations of Lilong convened a public meeting at Lilong Bazar today decrying the suspension of Constable Fajiruddin.
Coordinator of ANJUMAN M Mahiyuddin told media persons that the driver and the other occupants of the Bolero jeep were drunk.
Constable Fajiruddin had just slapped the driver twice following a confrontation.
The injured scooterists were admitted to a clinic by OC of Lilong PS Hussain.
Later when MLA Ranjit and Minister Okendro arrived at the spot and enquired about the incident to OC Hussain, Minister Okendro made derogatory remarks against Muslim community, he said.
Mahiyuddin further demanded apology from Minister Okendro for this derogatory remarks within 24 hours and warned of launch intense agitations by the Muslim organisations if the Minister does not tender apology.
