IW DEO ready to receive nominations

District Election Officer Imphal West Th Kirankumar has informed that the office will start receiving nominations soon though no candidates for the Assembly election from the district filed their nomination on February 1 .
Speaking to the media at Imphal West DC complex, Th Kirankumar continued that all Constituencies in Imphal West district will go to poll in the first phase which is scheduled on February 27 .
Saying that nomination was officially opened from yesterday and will continue till February 8 except Sunday, he added that any candidate can withdraw their candidature till February 11 .
The electors from the district can vote from 7 am to 4 pm on February 27 while the votes will be counted on March 10, he added.
Continuing that Imphal West has 13 Assembly seats including one reserved for Scheduled Caste (Sekmai AC) and every Constituency has about 20,000 to 36,000 voters, the DEO maintained that Singjamei has the least number of electors while Patsoi has the maximum.
About 90 percent of the electors cast their votes in the 2017 election, he said and added that the mark might exceed 90 percent this time.
He further said that one Returning Officer will supervise two ACs each in Imphal West, except Uripok.
Saying that the electoral population of the district is 3,77,290 which include 72 transgenders, 3304 PWDs, the DEO maintained that the gender voter ratio is 1099 women/1,000 male which is a sign of a healthy democracy.
The DEO said that polling stations in the Singjamei Assembly Constituency will be manned by all-women polling personnel to encourage more female voters.
He also stated that unlike previous elections, this year instead of using loudspeakers during departure of polling personnel for their respective polling stations, colour-coded vehicles will be utilized for easy identification while transporting the polling personnel to their respective polling stations within the district.
Imphal West SP Shivakanta also briefed about the security preparations undertaken in the district ahead of the election and highlighted conduct of security checks, seizure of liquor, etc.
