Imphal, February 02 2022:
Republican Party of India (Athawale) on Wednesday announced names of five candidates to contest the state assembly election.
RPI (A) North East observer Vinod Nikalje announced the list of five candidates in a function held at RPI (A) office located at Keishampat.
The candidates are Khagokpam Khamba for Khurai AC, Mongjam Poireihenba Meetei (Lamlai), Maheshwar Thounaojam (Keishamthong), Laitonjam Brojen (Oinam) and Dr Nimaichand Luwang for Wangkhem AC.
Speaking at the event, Vinod Nikalje confided that the party is discussing to field ten candidates in the upcoming election.
The names of the remaining five candidates will be announced day after tomorrow.
There is high hope that all the candidates will win, he said, while adding that the party will try to field candidates in almost all the assembly constituencies in the next 2027 election.
RPI (A) state president Maheshwar Thounaojam said that the party will work hard to ensure that every candidate wins the election in their respective constituencies.
The party will surely bring a big change in the state, he expressed.
Meanwhile, expressing dissent over denial of RPI-A ticket to Heisnam Subhas, who is planning to contest election from Khurai assembly constituency, his supporters stormed the RPI on Wednesday evening.
Interacting with the media, Subhas said that he joined RPI-A about three months back and he was assured of party ticket for the upcoming assembly election.
He spent funds from his own pocket on making and printing party flags.
However, the party selected new entrant Khagokpam Khamba.
Infuriated by such cheating, his supporters stormed the party office and he could no longer control their anger, he said.
Strongly condemning the party for allegedly cheating him, Subhas said that he will contest the election either as an independent candidate or under the flag and symbol of another party.
