Imphal, February 02 2022:
At least three intending candidates from different assembly constituencies, who were in the race for BJP ticket, have announced their decision not to contest the upcoming assembly election.
Laisom Santosh (Bony) of Keishamthong assembly constituency said that he will not contest the election in a press meet held at his residence here on Wednesday.
Santosh said that earlier he decided to contest the election after several well-wishers asked him to do so after the death of his uncle, an ex-MLA.
However, as he could not get the ticket, he will not contest the election this time but will start preparation for the next election right away.
Keishamthong Kendra Development Committee convener Pukhrambam Ranbir said that Santosh is taking the decision to abandon the election plan after his supporters asked him to prepare for a better outcome in the next election.
Shamurailatpam Ibotombi of Wangkhem assembly constituency, who was also in the race for BJP ticket, also announced his decision to pull out from the election this time.
Ibotombi said that he joined RSS a long time back and still believes in BJP.
Mention may be made here that other than Ibotombi, four other intending candidates for the seat of Wangkhem AC, who were in the race for BJP ticket, declared that they would be contesting the election from different political parties after BJP chose Y Nabachandra as the party candidate to contest the polls against sitting Congress MLA K Meghachandra.
Earlier on Tuesday, Wahengbam Dineshchandra of Patsoi assembly constituency announced that he would not be contesting the election.
Making the announcement during an event held at the CM's bungalow on Tuesday, Dineshchandra said that he will remain with the BJP though he was denied ticket.
CM Biren lauded his Dineshchandra loyalty to the party and assured of helping him in taking up development works in Patsoi AC.
On the other hand, former ZP member N Basanti of Khurai AC, who was in the race for INC ticket, has left Congress party and joined BJP.
She was accorded a warm welcome by chief minister N Biren at his official residence on Tuesday.
