Imphal, February 02 2022:
BJP is sure of winning over 40 seats in the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections.
However, there is no plan for any pre-poll alliance with any political party, although the same cannot be said of post-poll, Chief Minister N Biren has stated.
Speaking to newspersons at BJP's office here on Wednesday, Biren affirmed that the party has not made any pre poll alliance but nothing is set for post poll.
However, it is wrong for those in the coalition government to slander at each other, even if some disagreements are present.
Responding to question on whether the party is in an alliance with NPF, the CM stated that no pre-poll alliance has been inked with any party.
The cooperation existed when everything was in a weak state in the beginning.
However, BJP has been able to stand on its own over the last 5 years and any decision on the given matter would be taken after the election.
He then remarked that Manipur is not the only state wherein the sitting MLAs were not given party ticket.
The tickets were decided by the party's Parliamentary Board based on the survey report and other reports, and the disapproval for ticket to some intending candidates as well as the sitting MLAs was not on the ground of incompetency or character attributes.
Only one candidate per constituency was to be selected so it is impossible to give party ticket to all 4-5 intending candidates in a single constituency, he reasoned.
After the announcement of party ticket, no issues were raised other than in 1 2 constituencies.
Even now, people fully trust BJP as per a survey report.
Talks are being held with those who were denied party ticket and the issues related to intending candidates in respect of around 5 constituencies were settled alone on Tuesday, he conveyed.
Responding to questions regarding the influence of the alliance formed by Congress along with Left parties, Biren said that it is inevitable for the weak to come together.
However, no benefit could be derived from holding hands with a party which has been unable to produce an MLA, a pradhan or even a member, the CM said with apparent reference to the Left parties.
