JD-U candidate files nomination

Imphal, February 02 2022:
Janata Dal (U) candidate Khwairakpam Devendro Singh, son of (L) Khwairakpam Jatra Singh of Awang Sekmai Makha Leikai filed his nomination from 16-Sekmai (SC) assembly constituency on Wednesday, the second day of filing nomination in respect of the first phase polling.
The filing of nomination was held at the office of the Returning Officer, 16-Sekmai AC Salam Padmapati.
Devendro's nomination was supported by ten proposers.
Filing of nominations for the first phase polling, which is scheduled to be held on February 27, began on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the JD-U released its second list of candidates for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
As per a notification signed by Manipur State Election 2022 Core Committee chairman Senchumo Lotha and national general secretary Afaque Ahmed Khan, the second list of candidates included Yumnam Santa Singh for Keirao AC, Konthoujam Manoranjan Singh (Naoriya Pakhanglakpa), Md Sikander Ali (Wabagai), Abdul Nasir (Lilong), Samuel Jendai (Tamenglong) and Ngursanglur Sana te for Tipaimukh AC.
The JD-U had released its first list of 30 candidates on Tuesday.
Notifications of elections for the first phase in respect of 38 assembly constituencies of Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts were issued by the Returning Officers concerned on Tuesday.
Nomination papers will be received till February 8 and scrutiny of nomination papers will be taken up on February 9 while the last date for withdrawal of candidature will be On February 11.Meanwhile, Imphal West District Election Officer/DC Th Kirankumar along with SP Ksh Shivakanta briefed media persons on Wednesday afternoon regarding the poll preparedness of the district.
The DEO informed that polling stations in Singjamei AC will be manned by all-women personnel to encourage more female voters.
He also stated that unlike previous elections, this year instead of using loudspeakers during departure of polling personnel for their respective polling stations, colour-coded vehicles will be utilised for easy identification while transporting the personnel to their respective polling stations within the district.
SP Shivakanta also briefed about the security preparations undertaken in the district ahead of the election and highlighted conduct of security checks and seizure of liquor, etc.
The press conference was attended by ROs and nodal officers concerned, among others.
