Heroin worth Rs 94 lakh seized

A team of Kakching commandos arrested one man along with 40 soap cases of heroin worth around Rs 94 lakh in international market from Pallel check post, today.
The arrested person has been identified as Abdul Malik (47), s/o Md Siraj of Sora Mayai Leikai.
According to reliable information, the commando team led by Inspector Abash Khan under the command of Kakching Additional SP Binoy Chongtham and under the overall supervision of Kakching SP Shrey Vats carried out a random frisking and checking drive at Pallel check post near Pallel Police Station to detect movement of anti-social element and transportation of illegal items.
During the drive, the teams signalled one silky silver Maruti Alto coming from Moreh side to stop, but the driver attempted to flee, said sources.
Saying that the team managed to stop the suspected vehicle and checked it in the presence of a civil witness, the sources added that the car was found to have a modified fuel tank.
On checking the fuel tank, 40 soap cases containing heroin were found.
The driver was arrested along with the contraband items and the car at around 12.20 pm.
The sources stated that the seized heroin weighed around 470 gram.
On questioning, Md Abdul Malik disclosed that he carried the contraband items at the direction of one Mary (38) of Moreh to hand it over to Chuchung (40) of Pallel, said sources.
The arrested person has been handed over to Kakching Police Station along with the seized articles.
