Imphal, March 01 2012:
Labelling the Naga People's Front (NPF) as a political organisation whose agenda not only poses a threat to the emotional and territorial integrity of Manipur but also aims to work for only the interest of the Naga community, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaikhangam questioned on what hidden agenda are the non-Congress political groups and NPF working together.
Interacting with newspersons at the BT Road Congress Bhavan this afternoon, Gaikhangam, who is the Congress candidate in Nungba Assembly Constituency, reminded that upholding interest of only the Nagas and disregarding sentiments of other tribes and community is the main agenda of the NPF, which has its head office in Nagaland's State capital Kohima.
Terming the NPF as a communal organisation, the State Congress chief also contended that NPF joined the election of Manipur in pursuit of its goal for creating Greater Nagaland by carving out Naga-inhabited pockets of neighbouring States.

Asserting that Congress will never work with a communal political organisation like the NPF, he also opined that other than narrow political vision of the respective political organisation, there cannot be another reason for the non-Congress political organisations working in tandem with the NPF.
Predicting that the aspiration of the non-Congress political organisations to form the next Government will not materialise, Gaikhangam also expressed that a coalition of political organisations with diverse interests and agenda will eventually betray trust and expectation of the people of Manipur.
While welcoming the Election Commission of India's decision to order second round of repoll in 67 polling stations, he however regretted that the Congress party's proposal for repoll at specific polling stations, where the democratic exercise was not conducted in a free and fair manner, did not evoke the desired result from the ECI.
Speculating that repoll on March 4 might be due to pressure from the other political organisations, Gaikhangam affirmed that there will be no negative impact on the prospect of Congress candidates due to the repoll, for which the party is fully prepared.
Suggesting that all possible security measures be taken up for a free and fair second round repoll, he also observed that in case an effective security mechanism is not put in place to prevent private armies and NSCN (IM) cadres from interfering in the election process conducting repoll would be meaningless.
To a query on the withdrawal of the CPI from the SPF fold, the MPCC president conceded that he would not like to comment on the issue as CPI decided on its own.
On the CPI allegation that the SPF's CMP was not implemented in right earnest, Gaikhangam opined that if such a charge was made some years back and not at this juncture it would have impressed the common public.
