The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs M Ramachandran today assured to give all the support to the security forces in combating the dreaded Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), a militant outfit based in Meghalaya.
The Union Minister of State M Ramachandran held two separate security review meetings soon after his arrival in Shillong on Thursday evening.
Talking to newsmen after a review meeting Ramachandran admitted that the GNLA's violent activities are an issue of concern but expressed his ministry's satisfaction on the state forces' abilities and outcome in combating the GNLA menace.
" We are happy that the state government has shown its capability to effectively combat the GNLA and if needed all the support will be extended ", stated the Union minister.
It many be mentioned that the GNLA , the recently formed proscribed militant outfit in the state is on the prowl in Meghalaya.
Prominent amongst those violent sprees were the failed ambush on the superintendent of police of East Garo Hills and the SDPO of Apati sub division of West Garo Hills in the past seven days.
There were other cases of attacks and act of vengeance on the surrendered cadres in the past
one month.
Admitting the GNLA and other security issues of concern crop up, the visiting Union minister refused to divulged the basic points of discussion.
