Imphal, March 01 2012:
Even as Lok Jana Shakti Party has joined the group of non-Congress political parties, thus raising the number of membership to 11, a joint meeting of the non-Congress parties held has agreed in principle to the expansion of the Opposition alliance, People's Democratic Front (PDF) .
The meeting also resolved to form a non-Congress government in state in the next term.
The meeting of the 11 non-Congress parties was held at the official quarters of V Hangkhanlian at Lamphel today.
Till the last minute, the venue of the marathon meeting which started at 10 am and continued till 3 pm, was kept secret even from media persons.
The meeting minutely discussed issue over expansion of PDF and whether the existing name of the Opposition Front is to be retained or formed a new Front.
After a scrupulous deliberation, the meeting agreed in principle to expand PDF without any change in its present nomenclature.
However, the meeting could not finalise on the office bearers to be elected.
Furthermore, the meeting resolved to work towards installation of a non-Congress government in the state, soon after the results of the elections are declared.
The 11 non-Congress parties have also made it a point to defeat the Congress altogether in the re-poll scheduled for March 4 in 67 polling stations.
Today's meeting was attended by leaders of MPP, NCP, BJP, CPI, CPI (M), NPF, MSCP, Trinamool Congress, JD-U and Lok Jana Shakti Party.
Meanwhile, political analysts have expressed opinions that if the Congress falls short in the game of number, the chance for formation of next government in Manipur would obviously go to non-Congress parties.
However, it would be of concern whether the non-Congress parties would be able to bring good governance or stumble over every decision to be taken owing to differences in opinion among various political parties.
