Seminar on anthropology held

A two-day UGC sponsored national seminar on "Relevance of Anthropology in contemporary North East India" was inaugurated today at the Seminar Room of Anthropology Department, DM College of Science.
The seminar was organised by PG Department of Anthropology, DM College of Science in collaboration with Directorate of University and Higher Education, Government of Manipur.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, former Additional Director of University and Higher Education, Dr L Rajendra Singh observed that Manipur lacks behind in the field of anthropology when compared with other North Eastern states.
He urged the participants to draw inspiration from the seminar so that the State catches up with its counterparts.
Stating that Anthropology is an important field of study, Dr Rajendra also stressed on the need to introduce the subject in the school level curriculum.
Addressing the gatherings, Additional Director of University and Higher Education, Dr RK Yaiskul assured of every possible assistance for the development of anthropological studies in the State.
Dean of Humanities and Environmental Science, MU Prof W Nabakumar underscored the need to undertake surveying works in anthropological study as its related discipline like Geography does.
The inaugural programme of the seminar was also attended among others by Principal of DM College of Science Dr P Ranabir Singh.
