Only 9 colleges in state accredited

Even though a number of colleges, both government and private, have been established in Manipur, there are only nine colleges which have got accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) .
According to a reliable source, there are altogether 72 Colleges in the state.
Among these, 32 are Government Colleges, another 32 are Aided Colleges and 8 are Private Colleges.
Set up in 1994, NAAC is an autonomous body under the University Grants Commission (UGC), which assesses the standard and quality of the colleges in India.
In its assessment, NAAC has considered only Manipur University and nine other affiliated colleges deemed to be certified
for accreditation.
Among nine accredited colleges, there is one Private college.
The accredited colleges are Modern College, DM College of Science, DM College of Arts, GP Women's College, Manipur College, Imphal College, Oriental College, United College, Chandel and RK Sanatombi Devi College Teachers Education.
DM College of Science is the only College to be re-accredited with 2.88 points to its credit.
