Naga 'scripts' presented to State Archives

In a rare and significant event, a one-day Archival Awareness cum Lecture programme was held in Tamenglong today at Bethel Baptist Church complex, with Dr..MKirti Singh, Retd.Director, Education (U); Dr..KSushila, Deputy Director, Manipur State Archives and Phunggan Phaomei, President United Rural Tribal Development Agency, Tamenglong as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and President of the function respectively.
At the occasion Naga 'scripts' have also been presented to the Deputy Director of Manipur State Archives by Development Committee of Naga Script, DCNS for the purpose of preservation in State Archives for future generation.
A booklet on Zeliangrong customary laws which has been compiled by Zeliangrong Customary Law Research Committee was also presented to the State Archives during the function.
The Archival Awareness cum Lecture programme was jointly organised by Manipur State Archives, Government of Manipur and United Rural Tribal Development Agency, Tamenglong.
DM Nganthonang, Ex- Chairman TADC; Gonjeng Daimei, Retd Headmaster of Tharon Junior High School and Rev.N Palmei, Senior Pastor, TCC attended the Archival Awareness cum Lecture programme as resource persons.
DM Nganthonang spoke on the topic of 'The cultural heritage sites residing within the Tamenglong district' Gonjeng Daimei on 'The historical background of the historical monuments residing in the area of Tamenglong' and Rev N Palmei on "The historical and Cultural relationship between the Kabui tribe Meitei community' .
Earlier, inaugurating the one-long Archival Awareness cum Lecture programme, Dr..KSushila explained that the awareness programme aimed to preserve old records, documents, files, photos, maps, etc, of Tamenglong for future generation.
"All these old records and documents handed down by our forefathers should be preserved and made available for future reference", she said, while assuring that the State Archives would try it's best for the recognition of Naga 'scripts' at the national and international level.
Furthermore, she announced that the State Archives would translate the booklet of the Zeliangrong Customary Law Research Committee and publish the same into English language.
