Thoubal, February 23 2022:
Former Chief Minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi has taken an apparent swipe at the BJP yet again, claiming that the saffron party is only after power and it continuously spreads lies to the people.
Addressing the flag hoisting ceremony of Congress candidate in Wangkhem Constituency MLA Keisham Meghachandra at Wangkhem today, the former Chief Minister continued that the Manipur Progressive Secular Alliance (MPSA) which is a partnership of the Congress and five other parties was formed with the sole objective of defeating the BJP which poses a serious threat to democratic values and save Manipur.
Saying that the 12th Assembly election is not an ordinary poll as it will decide the fate of the next five years and handing the power to BJP for the next five years would be disastrous, Ibobi appealed to all electors to cast their votes wisely and after much consideration.
What has the BJP done in the last five years other than spreading falsehood, Ibobi asked and maintained that the schemes they initiated never reach the intended beneficiaries.
"Today, the State has numerous schemes which exist only on papers," he added.
Further claiming that BJP constantly undermines the very principle of democracy and the same is validated by not holding the ADC and Local Urban Body elections, the former Chief Minister claimed that BJP is heading towards dictatorship.
Ibobi then urged the people of Manipur to support MPSA in the ensuing election so as to unseat the BJP and save democracy.
CPI National executive member Dr M Nara said that there is not much difference in the BJP administration of the country and the conduct of Adolf Hitler in World War II while K Meghachandra said that he will take up many developmental and welfare programmes in the early phase of the next term.
AICC general secretary and in charge Manipur Bhakta Charan Das, Wangkhem Block Congress Committee president Alhaj Keramat Ali and MPCC media co-ordinator N Bhupendra attended the programme among others.
