Imphal/Thoubal, February 23 2022:
Former chief minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi has called upon the people of the state to give their mandate against the muscle and money power of BJP which has been threatening the public by misusing power.
He was attending flag hoisting ceremonies of INC candidates in Keirao assembly constituency Thongram Tony and Wangkhem assembly constituency MLA Keisham Meghachandra held at their respective residences on Wednesday.
Speaking at the events, Ibobi asserted that BJP will not return to power in the state after the ensuing state assembly election as well as at the Centre after the 2024 parliamentary election.
He charged BJP of flexing muscle and money power and threatening the public with arms to get their votes in almost every assembly constituency.
However, such brute tactics cannot ensure success.
It is unfortunate to use guns and bombs to intimidate the electors, he said, while terming it as a direct threat to democracy and rights of the people.
He also cited failure of holding ADC and urban local bodies' election as a violation of democratic rights by the BJP government.
The Manipur Progressive Secular Alliance was formed to defeat BJP, he said, while calling for public support to root out BJP from the soil of the state.
He also said that the future of the state and its people will fall into a dark abyss if BJP continues to rule in the state.
Till date, the BJP government has not taken up any significant development activities in the state.
Though some schemes were introduced by the government, the public could not get proper benefits of those schemes.
Introducing schemes after schemes without proper implementation will bring nothing good, Ibobi claimed.
CPI national executive member and former minister Dr M Nara compared the BJP rule with the rule of Hitler and called for public support to the alliance of Congress and left parties to defeat the saffron party.
MLA Keisham Meghachandra said he has taken a pledge to continue serving the people of his constituency and the state.
AICC general secretary Manipur in-charge Bhakta Charan Das, Wangkhem Block Congress Committee president Alhaj Keramat Ali, MPCC media coordinator N Bhupenda and leaders of BCC and Mahila Congress Committees also attended the flag hoisting ceremonies.
