Imphal, February 23 2022:
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Okram Ibobi Singh has accused the BJP of trying to buy the people's votes using money and muscle power and stated that it is time to teach the BJP a lesson in the ensuing State Assembly election 2022 .
The statement was made by Okram Ibobi Singh at a political conference held in connection with the flag hoisting ceremony of Congress candidate Thongram Tony Meetei of Keirao Assembly Constituency.
It may be noted that the event took place at the residence of Thongram Tony Meetei in Keirao Bitra Lairembi Leikai, Imphal East.
Speaking on the occasion, O Ibobi declared that the BJP will not return to form the new Government in the ensuing State Assembly election and added that the same will apply for the Centre in 2024 .
"It is a source of embarrassment that the BJP believes it can achieve victory in the election by creating an environment of fear through gun fire and threats", he stated.
Such acts of goondaism meted out to the residents of Keirao AC with the goal of securing more votes is regrettable, O Ibobi further added.
He urged the people to not be cowed by such barbaric acts, adding that the people should exercise their right to vote for the candidate of their choice as violence and threats have no place in a democratic country.
O Ibobi also held the BJP responsible for all instances of violence in poll bound Keirao AC and claimed that such incidents never occurred when the Congress party was in power.
Adding that the people's right to vote has more power than any bombs or bullets, he made an appeal to the people gathered to contribute in uprooting the BJP from the political landscape of Manipur and cast their votes in favour of the Congress candidate Thongram Tony Meetei.
