Bishnupur, April 23 2023:
Along with holding its annual meeting, an introduction function of the newly inducted members of Senior Citizens for Society, Bishnupur branch was held at its branch office in Bishnupur ward number 4, on Sunday.
Speaking at the function, Manipur Human Rights Commission former acting chairperson Khaidem Mani recalled that Senior Citizens for Society, Manipur was floated in 2008 for the welfare of the society and has been making constructive suggestions to the government as well as civil society organisations of the state.
The Society also played a big role in trying to bridge the gap between the government and the civil organisations in 2009 when there was curfew imposed in Imphal following the broad daylight killing of Sanjit and Rabina at Khwairamband market by security forces and when schools and colleges were shut down and students deprived of their rights to education, he elaborated.
Mani also mentioned that the Society intervened in bringing about an understanding between AMUCO and UCM over conduct of the June 18 event and helped in organising one common commemorative function, which used to be held separately earlier.
The function was also attended by Society's Bishnupur branch president Kh Manihar Singh, vice president Th Ibopishak, secretary N Sanaba Singh, former minister Kh Jibon Singh and retired teacher A Ibobi Singh as presidium members.
