Workshop on Manipuri culture concludes

A 10-day workshop cum production on Manipuri art and culture, which was jointly organised by Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation, Manipur and Academy of Culture & Art (AMCA), Sylhet, concluded on Saturday at Rajbari Mandav, Sylhet in Bangladesh.
Altogether 40 Manipuris including children from Sylhet, Dhamai and Bhanugash attended the workshop cum production, during which classes on Basanta Raas, Puja, Arangfam, Potloi, Moibung (conch) and Sankirtana were conducted.
According to Foundation spokesperson Takhellambam Irabot, the workshop cum production was organised in relation with the 224th death anniversary observance of Rajarshi Bhagyachandra upon request from AMCA, Sylhet.
The production of the workshop, a Basanta Raas performance, will be presented in Sylhet in a public event, he conveyed.
Gurumayum Shanti, a participant of the workshop, expressed elation to learn different aspects of Raas Leela and Sankirtana, as well as understand the difference between Raas Dance and Basanta Raas.
AMCA representatives said that they have chalked out a plan for organising follow up training programmes on Basanta Raas and present the same at different parts of Bangladesh.
