Meitei woman found dead at Hojai

A team of World Meetei Council (WMC), Hojai district rushed in to assess the allegedly suspicious death of a 24 year old Meitei woman during the night of April 21 at Kaki Ward No 1 under Hojai district in Assam.
The deceased woman has been identified as Yumnam Priya Devi, d/o Y Nishikanta Singha.
Roughly a year ago, Priya had married Hemanta Bordoloi (26), s/o Mahendra Bordoloi from Kaki Ward No 1 under P/S Kaki Hojai, Assam and had been residing here ever since.
Priya was found hanging and was rushed to the hospital.
The deceased's family has accused the Bordoloi family of torturing their daughter-in-law and allegedly causing her death.
Further, the woman was found with many marks on her body, which are evidence of mistreatment by the Bordoloi family, they claimed.
Kaki Police has sent Priya's mortal remains to Bhugeswari Phukanani (BP) Civil Hospital, Nagaon for post mortem.
A case has also been registered in this connection.
In this regard, Saurab Gupta, SP Hojai has said that Priya's father-in-law and mother-in-law have been taken into custody to further investigate the case.
He also assured that all possible legal help will be extended to bring justice.
WMC, Hojai district general secy Karam Ibomcha expressed his condolences at the demise of Priya and appealed to the relevant authority to dole out appropriate punishment to the perpetrators.
