Imphal, April 23 2023:
The All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has announced that it will go ahead with its agitation from April 24 and a 12-hour total shutdown will be imposed from 6 am of the day in all hill districts.
The decisions to resume the agitation and impose the 12-hour bandh were taken on April 17 for RIMS authorities' failure to honour the agreements signed on April 3, it said in a statement.
Notably, ATSUM, the State Government and RIMS authority had signed the agreement which included 1) Cancellation of the RIMS notice dated 03-03-2023 for declaration of results for appointment to posts of LDC .
ii) Fresh declaration of LDC appointment results with reservation--SC(3%), ST(34%) and OBC (13%) within one week time .
iii) to follow existing rules and DoPT guidelines in matters of all recruitment to Group C and Group D posts.
While cautioning that it has decided to impose a 12-hour total shutdown in all hill districts, ATSUM had earlier urged RIMS authority to honour the agreement at the earliest.
Meanwhile, ATSUM said emergency services will be exempted from the purview of the total shutdown.
It also appealed to RIMS authority to act in line with the agreement and allow 'rule of law to prevail' .
Following ATSUM's announcement to impose the total shutdown, All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has asserted its support and endorsed the bandh.
The student body has taken a firm resolution to endorse the 12-hour total shut down in all the hill districts of the State in the best interests of the whole tribal populace, ANSAM said.
It also appealed to its constituent units and subordinate bodies to endorse the bandh in their respective areas.
RIMS shall be solely responsible for any untoward incidents that may occur during the total shutdown period, ANSAM further said.
