Imphal, April 23 2023:
Paona Mongpham Protection & Celebration Committee has urged the state government to renovate the place where the final rites of Paona Brajabashi were carried out.
Speaking at a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here Sunday, Committee president Yumkhaibam Bimol informed that the erstwhile Arapatisingei (now Arapti Maning Leikai), wherein the final rites of Paona Brajabashi was conducted, has remained neglected for the last 132 years.
Despite these, the family of Ibudhou Paona of the Paonam clan, the locals of Arapti Maning Leikai and other patriotic spirits, have been taking care of the crematorium without anyone's help including offering of floral tributes at the location.
Observing that places outside Manipur which was visited by the brave heart, has been recognised and preserved beautifully by the local government or Manipur government; Bi-mol, however, expressed his dissatisfaction on the lack of interests in preserving the place where his (Paona Brajabashi) final rights was held.
As such, he urged the state government for renovating the crematorium at the earliest.
The Committee president then informed that the 132nd commemoration of the final rites of Ibudhou Paona will be held on April 26 and thus, appealed to the people to participate in the event.
Regarding the controversy surrounding the exact date of the occurrence of Khongjom War i.e., either on April 23 or 25; Bimol urged the scholars and the government officials concerned to affirm the exact date, thereby alleviate the confusion from minds of the people.
