Imphal, April 23 2023:
RIMS Director Prof H Priyosakhi has appealed to the ATSUM to defer its decision of imposing a total shutdown in the hill districts of the State.
Notably, the ATSUM made an announcement on April 18 that a 12-hour total shutdown would be imposed in all the hill districts with effect from 6 am tomorrow.
Speaking to media persons at her Lamphelpat office this afternoon, Prof H Priyosakhi said that the issues/demands raised by ATSUM cannot be addressed by RIMS authority alone.
As RIMS is controlled by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, we cannot fulfil their (ATSUM) demands without approval of the Ministry, she said.
Nonetheless, the RIMS authority has been communicating regularly with the Ministry of Health and Family on the issues raised by ATSUM regarding the reservation quantum.
"We are hopeful that the Ministry would address the issues raised by ATSUM satisfactorily but the process is taking quite a long time", the RIMS Director said.
Pointing out that RIMS is not only a medical institute but also a healthcare centre, she appealed to ATSUM to withdraw its decision of imposing a total shutdown in the interest of the public.
Earlier, ATSUM announced that a total shutdown would be imposed in the hill districts with effect from April 4 but it was withdrawn temporarily after a tripartite meeting was held among RIMS authority, ATSUM and the State Government on April 3 .
