Awareness prog held, plastic bottle banks installed

Khamatek Ukhrul along with Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, organised an awareness campaign at Tangrei community hall, Ukhrul and installed plastic bottle banks in different parts of Ukhrul on Sunday.
Speaking as chief guest of the programme, Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, joint director Dr T Brajakumar pointed out that the weather condition in Ukhrul district has changed a lot, but people continue to remain idle despite knowing it and the dire need to find out the causes of these changes and search for solution.
He maintained that the drastic change in climate condition is mainly because of selfish and easy way of living.
The release of harmful gases because of human activities not only harms the environment but may even lead to cancer among the people.
While stating that every individual produces solid and liquid waste, Brajakumar said that improper disposal of solid waste will lead to air as well as water pollution.
It is not only the responsibility of the government, but everyone to ensure healthy environment for the welfare of future generation, he said and mentioned that the awareness programme has been organised with an objective to make the people aware about the urgent need to reduce environmental pollution.
The programme was attended by Ukhrul village authority Panshi Shaiza, senior member Artax A Shimrey, Tangrei chairman Thotngashing Chipheng, Tangrei Women chairperson Veronica Zingthai, Hunphun Shanao Long's Agnes Shaiza, Hunphun/Ukhrul Authority secretary Worngam Muirangwo, Tangkhul Shanao Long president Thingreiphy Lunghorwo and HKL Ukhrul Students' Union vice president Ning-machan Shingnaisui among others.
