1st Waree Leeba Festival 2023 concludes

The five-day 1st Waree Leeba Festival 2023 held at Barak Museum and Library, Bantarapur, Cachar, Assam came to a close today.
Altogether, 15 narrative (Waree Leeba) artistes participated in the festival.
This comprised three artistes from Repertory of Waree Leeba, Brahmaputra Valley Branch; eight from Barak Valley Branch and four from Manipur.
Speaking as the guest of honour at the valedictory ceremony, Takhellambam Shyamkanhai Singh, Director, Repertory of Waree Leeba Manipur announced that the narrative artistes under Repertory of Waree Leeba Barak Valley Branch will be awarded pensions and awards as a part of the effort by Repertory of Waree Leeba Manipur to extend aid to older artistes.
This is a part of the Repertory's endeavour to promote the narrative art of Waree Leeba to Meiteis who have settled beyond State borders, he said.
Other attendees at the event include Hajarimayum Shyamkishor Sharma, president, Repertory of Waree Leeba Barak Valley Branch as the functional president and Dr Kangabam Nayanchand Singha, retd Professor GC College, Silchar as the chief guest.
Certificates were also distributed to the participants of the festival.
It may be noted that the 1st waree Leeba Festival 2023 was organised under the supervision of Repertory of Waree Leeba and with the collaboration of Barak Valley Branch, Manipuri Dance Academy and Barak Museum and Library.
