Floral tribute paid to War martyrs

Rich floral tributes were offered to the martyrs and freedom fighters of the Anglo-Manipuri War 1891 during a function organised jointly by Justice Committee on Anglo-Manipuri War 1891 Martyrs and Freedom Fighters Kangleipak, Ningthemcha Ningshing Lup and Major Leitam Memorial Committee at Bishnupur Bazar Yango-inungjao community hall on Sunday.
The commemorative function was attended by Justice Committee chairman H Ibotombi khuman, descendant of Sananganba Lourungpurel RK Upendra Singh, descendant of Major Loitam Mukta Leitam Saratchandra Singh, descendant of Longjamba Poila Bira Dr Longjam Ritendro, AMKIL president L Nganbi Leima and Educational Cultural and Health Organisation Bishnupur president Loitongbam Debachand as presidium members.
Speaking at the function, H Ibotombi informed that the 132nd edition of the tribute event was organised in remembrance of the sacrifices made by Major Leitam Mukta, Major Tamna, Longjamba Poila, Yengkhoiba Poila and Khamba Singh who fought against the mighty Britishers during the battles in Laimaton Chungi Ngariyan Joujangtek, Khwaikhou Khujamlok, Leimatak, Lamangtingbi and Lourungpurel area.
He further informed that the statues of Thangal General and Charai Thangal, who fought against the Ko-hirna column of the British force, have been installed at Thangal General Ecopark in Mayangkhang, and Niranjan Singh Subedar, who fought against the Tamu column at Kanglatongbi along with construction of the Khongjom War Memorial Complex.
However, no memorial statues or complexes have been developed for those martyrs who fought the Silchar column of the British forces.
Therefore, the authority concerned should also recognise their contributions and construct memorial sites for these mar tyrs at the earliest, he said.
