Consultation on Climate change organised

Centre for Research and Advocacy, Manipur (CRA) and Youth Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) jointly organised a consultation programme on "Climate change in Manipur & COP 27 of UNFCCC" at Jupiter Yambem Centre, Paona Bazar here on Friday.
During the programme, which was attended by leaders of various civil societies and environmentalists, discussions were held on the effects of climate change and relevant issues.
Speaking on the occasion, YFPHR representative Jennison Urikhimbam pointed out that many international institutions take up non-sustainable projects such as mining, extraction of minerals, dam construction and others, which is turn are affecting the climatic condition.
However, development must be carried out in line with the interest and welfare of the people, he stated.
CRA secretary Jiten Yumnam remarked that oil palm plantation and other unsustainable projects are impacting the geography of the state including forests and wetlands.
Environment activist Cecil Thounaojam spoke about indigenous rights with regard to the state's land and resources.
