Imphal, November 04 2022:
Manipur University retired Professor W Nabakumar has appealed to all concerned to take both the historical and contextual perspectives into account while studying the socio economic status of the Meetei/Meitei community.
He was giving his observation as the moderator at the fortnightly lecture series which began today at the Court Hall of Manipur University.
The lecture programme was jointly organized by the Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP), MU and Manipur Economic Association on "Socio Economic Conditions of Meiteis of Manipur" .
The Professor said that considering only the parameters of some Meetei/Meitei villages will not be able to give the profound socio economic condition of the whole ethnic group as they are not homogenous in terms of economic condition and from a sociological perspective.
Bringing out such a comprehensive picture of socio economic condition of the Meetei/Meitei community is necessary as a large chunk of population has been demanding for enlistment of the ethnic group in the ST list, he added.
While delivering his lecture, Associate Professor of Thoubal College Dr L Debendra gave a slide presentation of the socio economic condition of Nungei Village.
He pointed out the situation of the lifestyle and socio economic condition of the village which is just some kilometres away from the State capital Imphal.
CSSEIP Director Professor E Bijoykumar and Associate Professor Dr Th Bharat among others also attended the lecture programme.
