Survey shows facility deficits in Govt schools

Maximum of the government schools in the state lack basic facilities such as electricity connection, library, separate toilet for girl students, according to United District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) report 2021-22 published by the Depart ment of School Education and literacy, ministry of education.
According to the report, there are 4,617 schools in Manipur with 42,684 teachers and 6,93,194 students.
The teacher-pupil ratio is 1:16 and teacher per school ratio is 9 while enrolment per school is 150.Out of the total number of schools, 2,422 are primary, 966 upper primary, 958 secondary and 271 are higher secondary schools.
Out of the total, 2,889 are government schools, 583 aided, 1,010 private recognised schools and 135 are categorised as others.
Out of the 42,684 teachers, 18,037 are under government, 2616 under aided, 20,784 under private recognised and 1,247 under other category of schools.
Out of the total, 19,504 are male teachers and the remaining 23,180 are female teachers.
On the other hand, 61.8 per cent pre-primary teachers, 72.8 per cent primary, 73.6 per cent upper primary, 77.4 per cent secondary and 79.3 per cent higher secondary teachers are trained teachers.
In terms of student enrolment, out of the 6,93,194 students, 61,723 are in pre-primary, 4,60,886 in elementary, 91,005 in secondary and 79,580 are in higher secondary stages.
Out of them, 2,16,636 are enrolled in government schools, 30,452 in aided schools, 4,30,166 in private schools and 15,940 in other category schools.
In terms of gender, 3,52,199 are boys and 3,40,995 are girls.
There are 4,571 children with special needs which include 2,400 boys and 2171 girls.
In terms of girls' toilet, 13 per cent of the schools do not have separate toilet facility for girls.
The figure is 24 per cent for government schools, 9 per cent government aided schools, 4 per cent private schools and 1 per cent among other schools.
As for library facility, 74 per cent of the schools do not have the facility and the figure among different types of school management is 97 per cent in government, 73 per cent in aided, 37 per cent in private and 6 per cent in other schools.
In terms of electricity, 46 per cent of the schools in the state do not have electric connection and figures among different types of schools are 71 per cent in government, 25 per cent in aided, 13 per cent in private and 3 per cent in other schools.
At the same time, 80 per cent of the schools do not have medical facility with government schools leading the chart at 83 per cent, 80 per cent for aided, 75 per cent for private and 72 per cent for other schools.
