Rabi crop seeds, inputs distributed to Chandel farmers

Distribution of inputs for Rabi crops cum scientist-farmer interaction programme was conducted on Friday at KVK Chandel conference hall.
The programme was attended by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam director Dr VK Mishra as chief guest, ICAR, Umiam principal scientist (Veterinary Microbiology) Dr Arnab Sen, ICAR CSSRI Lucknow senior scientist Dr VL Verma, Chandel district agriculture officer Gladney Monsang, Chandel Horticulture & Soil Conservation officer Ksh Prava Devi as guests of honour and ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Manipur Centre joint director Dr I Meghachandra Singh as functional president.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr VK Mishra urged the farmers to fully utilise the facilities, technologies and knowledge shared by the KVK experts.
He said the local farmers are lucky to have the privilege of the presence of expert team in the vicinity and encouraged the participants to ignite their minds and be in touch with the KVK staff for all their issues.
On the other-hand, Dr Arnab Sen exhorted the farmers to bring change and assured that technological experts will always be available for the farming community while Gladney Monsang called upon the farmers to avail subsidiary under Sub Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM) scheme.
She informed that the scheme will provide affordable farm mechanisation thereby reducing cultivation cost and enhancing their productivity.
Prava Devi also informed the farmers to approach her office for any assistance and encouraged the farmers to adopt shiitake mushroom production for doubling income.
Dr I Meghachandra Singh, in his speech, appealed to the farmers to check deforestation and approach ICAR and KVK for any technological assistance.
He also encouraged the farmers to adopt Integrated Farming System Model.
During the programme, three value added products - Guava burfi, Black rice burfi and Casava cheese developed by KVK Chandel were released in the presence of the dignitaries.
Input of winter crop seeds like garden pea, coriander, reddish, cabbage, lentil and poultry birds were distributed to the farmers.
Later, an interaction programme was also conducted with around 83 farmers from Chandel district in attendance.
The programme was also participated by Monsangpantha Village chief Ng Vincent, ICAR Manipur Fishery senior scientist Dr Ch Basudha Devi, ICAR Manipur Agri Economics senior scientist Dr Kh Rishikanta Singh, Plant Pathology senior scientist Dr Ak Ratan Kumar Singh, ICAR Agri Biotechnology scientist Dr N Umakanta Singh, ICAR Soil Science scientist Dr Tensubam Basanta Singh, Poultry Science scientist Dr Chongtham Sonia, Fishery scientist W Anand Meitei and Chandel Veterinary department VO Dr Hb Warn gam Anal and staff of KVK Chandel.
