Seminar on 'Rights of differently-abled women'
Social Welfare Director warns of legal action on submission of fake disability certificates

A one-day seminar on 'Rights of differently-abled women' sponsored by the National Commission for Women was organised by Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) at GM Hall today.
Delivering a speech as the chief guest, Social Welfare Director Ng Uttam stated that efforts are underway to provide 'National Scholarship for Persons with Disabilities' to differently abled individuals in the State with the Social Welfare Department as the nodal department.
In this regard, he pointed out fraudsters who had submitted fake certificates to avail themselves of the scholarship money.
Stating that the department can easily spot fake certificates, he assured that legal action will be taken up against such fraudsters after completion of verification process of all applicants.

The Director added that the seminar was organised to enumerate the difficulties faced by differently abled women and to discuss the measures available to them when their rights have been violated.
He also applauded the Commission for organising the seminar specifically focusing on differently abled women.
Ng Uttam then highlighted the need to spread awareness among both men and women in order to ensure women's rights remain intact while adding that crimes against women are committed by both men and women.
Speaking as the functional president, Salam Ulka, Chairperson, MSCW underscored the role of NGOs and family members that contribute to the betterment of differently abled individuals.
She stated that there are many talented differently abled people with great potential.
She urged the gathering to learn from the seminar and work towards ensuring that differently abled women get the human rights they are entitled to.
Dignitaries present at the event include Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, member, MSCW; Lourembam Dayabati, member, MSCW and T Chuongsin Koireng, member, MSCW as the guests of honour.
The technical session of the seminar was moderated by Dr K Sobita, former Chairperson, MSCW.
