Anti-liquor legalisation protest continues

Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) in association with Nupi Samaj continued to stage protests across the state on Friday, denouncing the government's decision to legalise alcohol.
At Malom Bazar, All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), Malom Apunba Meira Paibi Lup and CADA jointly staged a sit-in protest on Friday.
During the sit-in, the protestors shouted and held placards inscribed with the slogans, 'We reject making intoxicants source of revenue', 'Will legalisation prevent crimes?', 'Legalisation means drugs not allowed, but liquor allowed', 'Is revenue more important than humanlife?', 'Will liquor legalisation not harm human body?', 'Withdraw legalisation decision and save the future of Manipur', etc.
Speaking at the protest site, a Nupi Samaj member pointed out the negative impact of liquor consumption and how liquor addiction had claimed several lives.
She also demanded the government to withdraw the decision of legalising liquor considering the consequences that the state would face.
A similar sit-in was also organised jointly by Bashikhong Panthoibi Bazar Women Welfare Association, Nupi Samaj and CADA at Bashikhong Panthoibi Keithel, wherein the protestors demanded the government to withdraw its decision immediately.
Nupi Samaj, Chanura Chaokhat Khongthang Nupi Lup and CADA Imphal East District Committee also organised a sit-in protest at Sagolmang multipurpose community hall on Friday and shouted various anti-liquor legalisation slogans.
