Imphal, May 18 2022:
Forest & Environment Development Organisation Manipur (FEDOM organised a tree plantation programme at Langolningthou Laikol and Langol hill range on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, FEDOM convenor N Imocha pointed out that the plantation drive is being conducted so as to help in mitigating the problems of climate change due to mass deforestation done both in hills and valley, at least to some extent.
He maintained that the misinformation being spread about the simple tree plantation event done in Kangchup Chiru Awa Lok as an attempt to take over the hill areas by the valley people is unfortunate.
While appealing against spreading such provocative rumours in the future, he asserted that Meiteis have never done any harm to the hill people or intend to take over their land till now.
Instead, the Meitei community has been trying to make minor ethnic communities protect their identities and become self-reliant.
He further, urged against spreading rumours on social media or in the newspapers that will incite misunderstanding among the different communities of the state.
