Wangkhei candidates speak out on drug issue

Wangkhei AC JD (U) candidate Thangjam Arunkumar has appealed to the people not to vote for candidates who are involved in drug cases.
Speaking at a JD (U) meeting held at Puja Mandir Lampak in Mantripukhri on Thursday, Arunkumar stressed the need of electing a capable leader who could uplift Wangkhei constituency, which has been left neglected by its previous representatives.
Remarking that except for those with money and power, it is difficult for the common people to get involved in drug trade, the candidate appealed to the people not to cast their precious votes to those leaders who are involved in drug and other criminal cases.
The meeting was also attended by Lok Sabha MP Sunil Kumar Pintu, Lok-Sabha MP and North East in-charge Ramprit Mandal, JD(U) Manipur president Apollo Singh, Election Commission advisor Haji Arafat Ali, social activist Ram Prasad and others.
Meanwhile, Wangkhei MLA and NPP candidate Y Erabot has slammed the Biren government for not filing review petition in a drug case after the court acquitted the main accused, despite making tall claims of waging a war against drugs.
Attending an election campaign held at Dimdailong Ward No.21 on Thursday, Erabot said that N Biren will not return as the chief minister of the state considering his lies and corrupt nature.
The government is taking up its war against drugs mission but the same government did not file review petition when the court acquitted a main accused in a multi-crore drug case.
It is a classic example of his direct or indirect involvement in the drug trafficking case, he said.
Erabot also slammed the CM for giving commitment for land plots in Dimdailong area, which amounts to violation of model code of conduct.
The CM should have consulted hisofficials before making such statements, he said.
Erabot also criticised the BJP government for making false claims of improved law and order situation while citing numerous pre-poll violent incidents involving guns and bombs and police have not arrested any person involved in those incidents till date.
He also charged the BJP of using arms and violence to seture votes.
