Nupi Marup stages protest in Delhi demanding peace in Manipur

Imphal, July 22 2026:
Members of the All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM), along with Manipuris residing in Delhi, staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Tuesday demanding immediate restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur.
The demonstrators urged the Centre to find an early solution to the Manipur crisis, resettle all displaced persons living in relief camps to their homes, reopen National Highways 37 and 39, and arrest and punish those involved in arson and killings.
As per a release issued by AMNM, although prior permission for a sit-in protest was sought from authorities, it was not granted.
Despite this, the women's body went ahead with the demonstration, raising slogans and holding a rally.
They stated that denying democratic space in the national capital was "unfortunate for the world's largest democracy".
After the rally, a memorandum containing their demands was submitted to the Office of the Speaker (Lok Sabha), Om Birla, through his Private Secretary at Parliament.
Copies were also handed over to MPs from Manipur and other States.
Rajya Sabha MP from Kerala, Santhosh Kumar, extended support to the protest The Nupi Marup expressed gratitude for his assistance.
