Mangpu Kilong listed for Mother Language Award

The Khudongbam Gourahari-Madhumati Mother Language Award 2023 will be conferred to language activist Mangpu Kilong.
The award is presented annually by Sahitya Thoupang Lup (SATHOULUP) In a release, SATHOULUP secretary M Uttamkumar informed that the award will be presented on the occasion of International Mother Language Day observance to be held at Manipur Legislative Assembly museum and achieves auditorium located at Old Assembly road on February 21 .
The award consists of Rs 10,000 in cash, a shawl and a citation.
The award will be given to 87 years old Mangpu Kilong for his continuing dedication and hard work for preservation and development of Kom language.
Son of former forest and agriculture minister Tebakilong during the times of MK Priyobarta, Mangpu Kilong's relentless efforts led to inclusion of Kom language as MIL subject by Board of Secondary Education Manipur and Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur.
He is presently holding the post of secretary of Kom Literature Society and has also published several essays in his mother language 'Kom', Uttamkumar informed, adding that a multi-lingual poets' meet will also be conducted as a part of the observance.
