World Anthropology Day celebrated

The Department of Anthropology, Manipur University, Canchipur, Imphal, celebrated World Anthropology Day yesterday under the theme 'Reaching People' by organizing an outreach activity at the Department's adopted village, Langthabal Chingthak Kabui Khul, Imphal, Manipur.
As per a press release issued by Professor S Jibonkumar Singh, HoD, Department of Anthropology, MU, the celebration began with a formal inauguration program at the Conference Hall of the Department of Anthropology, MU.
Faculty members of the Department Dr S Yaiphaba Meitei, Dr H Suraj Singh, Dr S Priyokumar Meitei and Dr M Philip delivered the inaugural speeches.
During the inaugural function, M Sc students and PhD research scholars of the department were briefed on why such a day was celebrated and how the outreach activity would be carried out, the statement added.
The objective of observing World Anthropology Day was to popularize the subject of Anthropology among the common people.
MSc students and PhD research scholars, along with the faculties and non-teaching staff of the Department carried out different outreach activities, including studying an anthropological account of the people and checking their health status through door-to-door visits.
The parameters used for estimating health status were body mass index, waist-hip ratio, blood glucose level, blood grouping, and lifestyle habits.
The outreach program in connection with observing World Anthropology Day came to a close with a formal gathering at the Community Hall of Langthabal Kabui Khul, Imphal, Manipur.
The village representatives expressed their excitement upon hosting the Department in celebrating such an important outreach activity in the village.
The department faculty also expressed gratitude towards the village authority and the villagers for their hospitality.
The faculty also highlighted the information learned about the health and hygiene of the villagers from the data collected and suggested certain ways to maintain good health.
Giving positive feedback on the outreach program and the disciplined and professional conduct of the students and scholars, one of the village representatives Wilson Gonmei expressed that the village is always ready to welcome the department and wished them the best for the growth and success of the students and the Department.
