IBSD to host discourse on bio-resources, ethnopharmacology

Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) would be hosting an International Bioresource Conclave along with the 22nd Congress of International Society for Ethnopharmacology and the 10th Congress of Society for Ethnopharmacology (ISE SFEC-2023) from February 24 to 26 at City Convention Centre, here.
IBSD, Imphal would be organising the event in collaboration with Society for Ethnopharmacology, India and International Society for Ethnopharmacology, Switzerland under the theme 'Reimagine Ethno-pharmacology: Globalisation of Traditional Medicine'.
The discourse will be the first not only in Imphal but also in the northeast, and will showcase different initiatives for promotion of bio-resources with special references to North East Region (NER).
Addressing a press meet in this connection at the conference hall of IBSD at Takyelpat, here, on Friday, IBSD Imphal director and chairman of ISE SFEC 2023 professor Pulok K Mukherjee said that the event will witness various plenary and special sessions wherein scientists from over 35 countries around the globe will discuss about development of bioresources and traditional medicines.
The director informed that around 700 delegates including 500 from foreign countries will participate in the event .
He also highlighted the initiatives taken up by IBSD for the development of bioresources and traditional healer's practices of this region for societal benefit and livelihood generation.
The congress will witness gala scientific deliberations by experts from diverse fields across the world.
There are over 350 scientific abstracts presented by young researchers, which include 220 poster presentations, Young Ethnopharmacologist Award and 130 oral presentations, he said.
During the congress, over 110 lectures will be delivered by scientists from over 35 countries on different aspects of bioresources development, traditional medicines and ethnopharmacology, he added.
Society for Ethnopharmacology, Kolkata vice-president Indrancel Das highlighted various activities of SFE, India which is affiliated to ISE, Switzerland, and said that SFE is working with a mission on 'Globalising local knowledge and localising global technologies'.
He said that the Society not only organises regular meetings and promotes research and publication but also offers multiple ways for exchanging information between scientists and anyone else interested in such topics.
During the Congress, several special panel discussion sessions including 'Publication ethics', 'Traditional Healers Conclave', 'Reimagine Ethnopharmacology', 'Herbs in One Health', 'Ashwagandha', 'i-Connect program: Business meet' will be held for the promotion and development of bioresources and ethnopharmacology.
The congress will provide an environment for knowledge sharing among researchers, policy makers, industry persons, healthcare practitioners, and decision-makers interested in the promotion of bioresources, traditional medicines, ethnopharmacology and drug discovery.
This is the first event of its kind happening in Imphal to showcase the unique bioresources of Manipur in particular and whole NER at large, he added.
