NEP will transform education sector: MoS Dr Ranjan

A two day International Conference on Science & Technology and Engineering (ICSTE) 2023 organised by National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur, began from Friday at the conference hall of the institute located at Langol, here.
The conference is being sponsored by NHIDCL, NIT Nagaland, NIT Arunachal Pradesh, Mastersoft, BRTF, NF Railway, Elsevier and Bank of Baroda.
Speaking as chief guest of the inaugural function, union minister of state for education and external affairs Dr RK Ranjan maintained that the country will see transformation in the education sector as the new National Education Policy introduced by the Modi government has been implemented.
He said that there is substantial allocation for education and relevant researches in the Union Budget 2023.The Centre is planning to set up a mega digital university as well as National Research Foundation under NEP.
IIT Madras, Kanpur and Delhi have been entrusted to make framework in this regard, he said and added that the initiative has been taken up in line with the government's vision of making the country a digitally empowered nation and improve digital economy.
Dr Ranjan expressed happiness on being part of the first ICSTE organised by NIT Manipur and said that the conference will provide a platform for academicians, researchers, scientists, engineers, technocrats and social scientists where they can share their experience and innovative ideas for advancement in science and technology as well as in engineering sector.
Addressing the event, NHIDCL MD Chanchai Kumar said that the corporation had undertook national highway projects in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, several northeast states including Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and West Bengal.
The agency was set up keeping in view of the challenging tasks in northeast and other hilly states, he said while informing that resources and efforts are similar between construction of 1 km road in hilly terrains and around 10 km in the plain areas.
Sinking roads, slope and unstable geological condition are some challenging situations the agency face while working on highway projects in the northeast, he said while expressing hope that the conference will help in finding solutions to such challenges.
NIT Manipur director professor Gautam Sutradhar was the functional president of the inaugural session which was also attended by NIT Nagaland director Dr S Venugopal as special guest.
